Courtesy of Bill Ruehera, this is a superbly edited piece of work that in the words of Bill, is a “Video essay exploring the aesthetic, narrative and thematic patterns in Michael Mann’s filmography.”
It’s an absolutely must see work that helps every Mann fan put their finger on many of the similar themes Mann introduces into all his films, which far from being just repetition, actually builds something larger and more significant. Whilst Bill does an extraordinary job putting this together with the same style and rhythm that Mann would surely approve, there are still further depths to Mann’s work that could still be included and compared across his movies. It’s a testimony to the density of Mann’s language in film. Nevertheless, grab a coffee, sit back and enjoy this wonderful ride through this visual and narrative landscape.
